Art Saves Lives

Oct 11, 13 Art Saves Lives

What do art-creativity and medicine have to do with each other? Seemingly little though at Damanhur, living in creative flow in connection with others has everything to do with supporting health and well-being. When I feel tired, sick, disconnected, depressed, alone… I find that making art, being around artists and their creations, dancing, making music, singing, being theatrical, seeing a performance, hearing poetry, it is a sure formula that works to lift my spirits and revitalize my energy. Art makes me want to live again.

Damanhur is amongst the organizers of an event this weekend that acknowledges and celebrates this connection. The second edition of the Art Medicine & Creativity Festival is happening in the town of Vidracco, which is the home to Damanhur Crea center and several Damanhur communities.

This weekend, a full festival program – free to the public – offers music and theatre performances, talks and discussions, book presentations, an art competition with 50 painters and sculptors. The festival opens tonight and and there will be a concert with a group called “Red Wine,” while tomorrow evening a local doctor is presenting his theatre show “Pesci fuor d’acqua (Fish Out of Water)” at Damanhur Crea. Many other experiences will be shared, like color therapy, information about art therapy in prisons, Leonardo da Vinci’s art and painting, sound healing in the medical context, and much more.

Is art healing for you? Let us know how… post a comment here, and enjoy creative living!
